Is Gaming a Deal Breaker?

Playing Call of Duty will get you dumped, or at least shacked up in the dog house for a little while. Do you find that easy to believe or a bunch of crap? Well, according to research done by myvouchercodes (an online British discount site) Call of Duty is the game most likely to start an argument. Their research also found that 80% of women feel their mate spends too much time playing video games or browsing the web, with 70% admitting that video game addiction was a catalyst in their relationship.

And, if you believe that the following videos aren’t made up (my husband is convinced they’re contrived) then maybe there might be some truth in another finding by mvc that says 1 in 5 ladies have dumped their significant other because of his web or gaming addictions. Have a peek at these videos for some eyebrow raising or perhaps comfort in knowing others feel the same way:

“get me something to drink yah” .. classic douche bag.

“I bitch and I bitch and still his routine remains constant” (hmm, maybe because your winner strategy of bitching is constant, his remains the same. Just sayin’)

Now, the blonde and her boyfriend like to play pranks on each other, so I still haven’t decided if that was for realz or if it was just another lame-ass attempt at their 15 minutes (extended by another 30seconds because of linking their vids) At any rate, he takes his driver to her laptop in the next video if you want to see some retaliation.

I have an HP laptop too.. I have to say, she took it in stride considering she’s not kidding when she says it was probably worth like $2,000.

Anyway, getting back to the point of this post. Since that last video was about turning the tables, thought I’d raise another interesting point which states 72% of Men feel their partner spends too much time on the internet but only 6% felt it was a deal breaker.

“While men are more likely to spend their time running recon with, scoring goals against or shooting at people from all over the world, women are just as to blame for the time they spend online for relationship breakups according to the study,” Mark Pearson, myvouchercodes managing director, “I’m no relationship expert, but it seems that as technology improves, our ability to interact with those around us lessens – hopefully these statistics will be the push people need to reassess the way they treat loved ones.”

via PC World.

Women are becoming more immersed in the gaming world, our clan WwW [Women with Weapons] is proof of that. More women are pushing their hubby aside to take some time on the PS3, or they go out and buy their own. Personally, I know of at least 10 households, including my own, where the wife has her own PS3.  I also know of 3 households where the wife is the dominant gamer and the husband is the one who can’t understand the desire to play on a gaming console for downtime. What used to be a predominantly male oriented field is no longer. Time for those basement dwellers to realize that mom can do a lot more then your laundry. She could probably pwn your ass in MW2.

Need more facts?

  • Nielsen estimates that 52% of PSP owners are female [source]
  • 45% of  active gamers are female [same source]
  • Nintendo boasts that 80% (or roughly 9 million) of Wii owners are women. [source]
  • Nielson also states that at least 44% of console users have xx chromosome. [source]

Also of note:

  • Activison wants more girls playing guitar hero. Feels 30% is room for growth [source]
  • Nielson (gotta love em) also says that 46.2%  are PC players [source] with at least 400,000  women playing World of Warcraft. [source]

So, ladies.. before you wag the finger, think about your own addictions as well and how much time you spend playing farmville while your hubby is playing team tactical. And of course, there is that age old adage of “If you can’t beat em, join em”. Women with Weapons clan plays mostly FPS (first person shooters) and we accept all levels of ability. Learn how to play the game as part of a team in a positive environment and maybe spark a new flame between you and your s/o when you start to realize just how much fun gaming really can be.

& guys.. would it really kill you to put the controller down once in a while though to spend some time with your lady? Even girl gamers like to feel like a woman when it comes down to spending time with their man. Just sayin’
